How Our Link GAP Analysis Works
A transparent look at our 3-step manual process.

We gather competitors
We start with a keyword that you want to rank for (e.g., “AC repair dallas texas”). We head over to Ahrefs → Keyword Explorer and enter your target term.
We gather the top ranking competitors with a focus on actual businesses. We exclude the “social media slop”. We repeat this for a few of the main traffic-driving keywords.

We run the competitive analysis
Once we have the list of competitors, we head to Ahrefs → Competitive Analysis → Referring Domains.
- “Not linking to target”: We add your site here.
- “Linking to competitors”: We add all 10 domains we grabbed in step 1.
Then we hit “Show link opportunities”. We repeat this with as many competitors as we can find to ensure we don’t miss anything.

We review the Link GAP
The resulting report shows every domain linking to your competitors but not you. We filter for Dofollow, DR > 20, and Traffic > 500.
Finally, we check this list against our inventory to see which links we can offer right away.
